Conditions of Access
Archive services aim to be as open as possible. However, information may be withheld where it falls within one or more of the categories of exempt information as defined in Part 2 sections 25 to 41 of the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act, or by other legislation that prevents disclosure.
Handling or copying of archives that are in a fragile condition may be restricted.
Copying and research services
Copies of documents can be ordered in paper, photographic or electronic formats, depending on the format and condition of the originals.
Permission to publish material from the Archive must be sought in advance from the University Archivist. Responsibility for obtaining copyright clearance rests with the applicant.
Heritage and Information Governance staff are happy to provide guidance on sources in the archives and will undertake simple searches of catalogued archives free of charge for the first 30 minutes. Heritage and Information Governance provides a research service for more detailed searches of catalogued archives. For details of charges for reprographic and research services contact the University Archivist.
