The University is committed
to fulfilling the statutory requirements of all anti-discrimination
Monitoring staff and students by racial group and disability
(and eventually sex, age, sexual orientation and religion
or belief) is a specific legal duty for all higher education
institutes and must be carried out.
In addition, higher education institutes have a statutory
duty to assess the impact of all policies, procedures, practices
and criterion on staff and student groups.
The benefits of undertaking equal opportunities monitoring
and impact assessments, as well as fulfilling legal obligations,
are that it allows the University to identify and remove any
barriers to progress, whilst enabling Heriot-Watt to measure
it’s performance and improve for the good of it’s
staff, students and visitors.
Results of equal opportunities monitoring and impact assessments
are on their way.
