The Environment and Energy function is part of the Property Maintenance Services section of Estates Services. It is responsible for the development and implementation of the University's Environmental, Energy and Sustainability policies through the University's Estates Services. This includes the following:

  • Development and implementation of the University's Environment and Sustainability Policy and Strategy
  • Development and implementation of Green Travel plans and to encourage sustainable travel options for staff, students and visitors alike
  • Development and implementation of Recycling and Waste Management processes at the University
  • Procurement of Gas, Water and Electricity for the University Campuses
  • Monitoring use of and trading of Carbon for the University
  • Monitoring and targeting of Utilities use
  • Developing and encouraging Energy Efficiency and Carbon reducing schemes across the Campuses
  • Promoting Environmental, Energy Efficient and Carbon reducing knowledge across the University
  • Providing assistance to Conference Services to develop Green Tourism Business Scheme initiatives (see Edinburgh Conference Centre's Environmental Policy)
  • Providing assistance to implement Fairtrade procurement of goods and services where appropriate
  • Provision of Environmental advice to Schools, Support Services Sections and Residences
