Welcome Events

Freshers' Week

There are a number of welcome events specifically for international students, and these take place across the University during Freshers' Week.

Freshers' Week takes place in the week before the start of semester 1. During that week, academic and social events are held to orient and welcome new students (Freshers). In addition to completing your student enrolment requirements, Freshers' Week is an excellent opportunity to get used to living in a new country and to become familiar with Edinburgh or Galashiels before starting your studies.

For more information on Freshers' Week please refer to the Fresher's guide and to the Students' Association website. Here you can find the Events Calander for Freshers Week 2013/2014.

International Student Welcome

International Students arriving at Edinburgh Airport during Freshers' Week will be able to get information and help from the "Scottish Universities Welcome Desk" at the UK Arrivals gate. The student helpers there will also be able to direct you to the pick-up point for the free shuttle bus bringing you to the Edinburgh Campus. The shuttle bus will run on the 6th and 7th September 2014 every hour on the hour from 9.00am to 10.00pm.

Please note that you do not need to pre-book a place for this service.

A shuttle service from the Edinburgh Campus to the Scottish Borders Campus will run at 2pm on these days. To book a place on this bus please email ISAO@hw.ac.uk and include your flight number and your scheduled arrival time.

Students attending Scottish Borders Campus in Galashiels should refer to the Galashiels pre-arrival guide.

The ISAO also organises the International Student Orientation Programme in September. For more information and to see the 2013-14 programme, please check our new student portal.
